SPOILED Boys

I think Don has already counted Fenix's vote and I am really out numbered now! Even though I do not feel we needed it, with THREE boys in the house, we can now add a Sega Dreamcast to the collection of video game systems. Don found a cheap one on ebay (which he might have to be banned from - if he keeps finding "great deals"). Along with a Nintendo DS that Grandma Lisa bought Jareth this last week.

So. . . . we now own an XBOX, an XBOX 360, a Nintendo Game Cube, and a Nintendo DS. I guess Jareth will be handing down his Smart Cycle, and the Leapster to Fenix (SEE, not even a month old and he is spoiled rotten too). Look at these addicted boys! They would play all day if I would let them.

what he SHOULD look like!

Unsure of mom after the torture

2008 Humboldt Art Festival

On June 14th Humboldt had their 3rd annual art festival. Jareth has so much fun going to these. They chose to have it at John Brown Park - which was SO much better than having it located downtown. Mom, Drew, and Jessica came over to take Jareth this year. Me, Don, and Fenix walked up to see them later on in the day. They had tons of kids art projects, Jareth had to try out the mask making, tile painting, bookmarks, face painting, & the scrap wood sculptures. Then he got to go to Dairy Queen with Grandma, Boppa, & Aunt Jessica.

making a stepping stone out of salt dough

workin' hard on that stone!

making bookmarks with stamps

eating an icee with his COOL mask!

painting tiles
(flirting w/ high school girls)

Face painting, hes a TIGER!!

Fenix @ Home AND Flooding

FENIX @ HOME . . .
He is doing well! Eating about 3 oz every 2-3 hours, and still a very sleepy baby. He is staying awake more and more during the day BUT still is up ALOT at nite. He 's a nite owl! He is not sleeping in his crib and UNfortunately, he does not like his play-pen either. I have been sleeping on the couch (bc it was easier than climbing in and out of the bed when i got home from the hospital), and Fenix has been sleeping in his chair in the living room. But I think this has contributed to him not liking his play-pen. I continue to try to get him to sleep in it though.

YES, He is Completely asleep during this ENTIRE video!! Jareth would sleep with his eyes open too. It is TOO funny!!! and a little creepy!

THE FLOOD . . .
Our basement had a MINOR flood on 6-8-08, because of all the rain & storms. Luckily, only about 2 inches of water. BUT, the water did leak into the half of the basement that is Jareth's bedroom. SOOOOOOO... We had to move ALL his toys & his bed out of water. Almost all of his toys are in plastic bins so we didn't really have to throw things away. We have started to put squares of waterproof carpet down there so he can still have a play room. Because there is NO way that he can have all his toys upstairs!

BUT now he has to keep his bed upstairs in Fenix's bedroom; we figured it was safer, JUST IN CASE we flood again. He is happy about sharing a room with his little brother -whatta good big brother! Im sure it partly helps that Fenix is not sleeping in the crib yet. But Jareth thinks its pretty cool to be upstairs now, in his words: "I live upstairs now". HA!! he makes it sound like we locked him in the basement.

Mom came over and helped me rearrange "the boys room". it is a tight fit, but it works:

Fenix's Birth Story

Fenix decided he was not going to be told what to do, like being induced and started his own labor!
Jokingly, we said that he heard we were gonna induce at 8 am on June 2nd and he thought that was the time he was suppose to be out by, so he started early. He was 42 minutes late!

6/1/08

-I started having bloody show around 10:30 am
-Grandma came and picked up Jareth.
-I rested and waited for contractions, none came!
-Went for a walk . . . no contractions! So came home to rest more.
-About 10:30 pm went for a LOOONG walk, and started contractions.
-They became regular @ around 11:30 --- 10 mins apart.
-Called the hospital, they said they had my room ready -- it was my choice when i wanted to come it, but it was still a little early.

this photo was taken on 6/1/08 - the day i went into labor

6/2/08
-I waited until 2:30am, contractions were too close and i was WAY TOO uncomfortable!!
-Got to the hospital and was @ 4cm
-Got my epidural - it took THREE tries to get it in correctly!!! (but the doc was really nice and good about contining to numb me up)
-Nurse got scared that his cord was coming b4 his head and called my doc
-Another doc came in to check me, and the cord was fine
-Then I was told that I was up to 8cm
-My doc came in, said in 30 mins i'd push
-Then when i started i found out that Fenix was a "tight fit"
- My doc went to go and get the OB/GYN (bc he was not coming out)
-the OB wanted to give me pitocin (THANK GOD my doc said no!)
-but the OB said 30 more mins pushing and he's come back
-it had been 4 hours since i gotten up to pee, so they pulled and stretched to get a cathitor in and "manually" emptied my bladder (YES it hurt!)
-this would be the time that don had to sit down, doc ordered him to take a break so that he didnt pass out
-he was ok after a min or two
-I had been pushing for 2 hours and was REALLY tired, they said that i needed either forceps OR c-section
-so... they numbed me and forceps were put in
-seconds later he was 1/2 out -- don cut his cord (around his neck) and then he popped out the rest of the way

Fenix Brian-Robert Shawhan 8:42 am - 7lbs .5oz - 21 in

I was scared to death to have forcps again, but after 2 hours i knew i needed some help, it wasnt near as bad as Jareth's forceps! and i only tore a little (2nd degree) and got stitched up quick with only a couple stitches.
Don watched AND helped with the labor & delivery . . . even tho a little nervous, he did well. He says that he is glad that he watched it all and is a very proud daddy!
My doc has now told me that, he was too tight of a fit. that a 7lb baby is as large as my body can handle (and not very well at that). so that if we decided to have more kids he would have to induce me earlier than 38 1/2 wks so that i could get the baby out (w/out forceps). -----> I say: NO MORE KIDS! lol im not takin the chance that i will have to go through forceps a 3rd time. (btw, after watchin the forceps = don agrees with me lol)

Here is a video we took while in the hospital:

MARCH 08

-Started the hormone progestrone as of 3/22/08 to help stop pre-term labor. Hopefully it works, if not I think I'm stuck on bed- rest. YUCK!
- As of 28 weeks - gained 20 pounds total during the pregnancy.
-"NESTING" has kicked in. I have cleaned filing cabinets at work, re-organized Fenix's clothes 4 times, and made two websites.

APRIL 08
(Don and I have been together for 3 years this month!)
-I have been sick, but feeling a little better. Having Acid Reflux problems, but got some meds for that.
-Total weight gain: 23 lbs.
& measure at 30 cm (doc says 10 more to go). I dunno how imma walk soon.
-Starting to get nervous!!

May 08
-Fenix is getting much stronger and most of his kicks now really hurt!
-@ 34 weeks - My feet started swelling and now they burn, itch, and never go down completely. I keep them elevated as much as possible & take baths to try to help. But at night is the worst. I cant stand for very long and i waddle even more now bc they hurt. AND NOW . . . my hands have started this week. I had to stay home from work today because i couldnt even turn my alarm off. AND working at the computer most of the day, would not have went over well. It hurts so badly to bend my fingers. They dont look very swollen, but ache & itch HORRIBLY! they get a little better as the day goes on (as long as i keep trying to use them).

-@ 35 weeks - offically off of work! (due to toxemia)
-@ 37 weeks - another ultrasound to check on baby's fluid and movement, everything checked out ok, but bc of the swelling the doc wants to induce me on June 2nd @ 8 am
